Bored over the last few days, have never really done anything for AC despite being around on and off for four years and I'm a nerd for stats. Introducing the 3v3 CTF World Rankings.

Every 3v3 CTF tournament match played by a clan since the beginning of the year has been used to determine a rating for each clan, relative to other tournament-playing clans. These ratings will then be used to create a world ranking system.

The ratings use the Glicko system, which is a newer, modified, and imho better version of the Elo system. For an explanation on the difference between Elo & Glicko, read this, or if you need an intro to rating systems in general read this.

Rankings will be updated monthly. Official rankings will begin on January 1, 2014, using results of all 2013 tournaments. As far as I can tell, this means only two: the Summer Cup and B} League (ACWC does not involve clans and will instead count towards national rankings, if/when they are calculated).

To be considered a ranked clan, a clan must play ten tournament matches and hold an RD value of 150 or less (context given later). I have already entered every ranked match for 2013 up to November 1, and the resulting RD value & games played for each clan is shown below. Hopefully this will give clans an idea of how many more games they need to play over the next two months in order to be ranked on Jan 1, when rankings are released:

Note that the actual ratings will remain hidden until Jan 1 (the **** in the table): the only visible numbers for now are games played and rating deviation (RD). Ratings will be shown on Jan 1.

HOW TO GET RANKED:

To recieve a standard rating and be ranked, a clan must play at least ten ranked matches and have their RD (rating deviation) under 150. Rating deviation decreases every time you play a match, and increases slowly over time. Until the ten game and sub-150 RD requirement is reached, a clan's rating is hidden and they will not be ranked.

Once a standard rating has been achieved, the clan's RD must continue to remain under 150. If a ranked clan's RD climbs back over 150, they will be moved back to the unranked list. Their rating is not lost, and they do not have to play ten matches to be re-ranked: they must simply play enough to get their RD back below 150.

RD decreases every time a clan plays a tournament match, and then increases slightly at the end of every month, regardless of whether or not the clan played tournament matches during the month.

WHICH MATCHES ARE CONSIDERED 'RANKED'/COUNT TOWARDS WORLD RANKING:

Only 3v3 CTF matches, played in a tournament, count towards world ranking. Standard CM's do not count.

For tournament games to qualify as 'ranked matches', the tournament must have been announced in the 'Clans and Wars' section of the AC Forums.

Screenshots of every ranked game must be posted publicly in a central location (ie. on the AC forums, on a clan's forum, or on a dedicated tournament forum). Demos should be available if required.

In tournaments where clans field two or more teams, only the results of the 'A' team will count towards world rankings. Any matches played by the 'B' team will not affect the clan's rating. Likewise, any match played against a 'B' team will not count towards a clan's rating, even if that clan was playing with their 'A' team.

Games that are forfeit during a tournament will not be considered towards world ranking; the team must win/lose in game play for ratings to be affected.

CONTEXT FOR RD/HOW RD WORKS (boring):

A clan with an RD of 200 will have it increase roughly two points per month; a clan with an RD of 100 will have it increase roughly five points per month.

A clan with an RD of 200 who plays one match against an evenly skilled clan with an RD of 200 would have their RD drop by 20, regardless of the result. Their RD would then rise by about two points at the end of the month. The same situation with both clans at an RD of 100 would result in a drop of four points (although they would rise five points again at the end of the month).

A clan with an RD of 100 would have to not play a tournament match for twelve months to move back above 150 and be unranked. If they then played a single tournament match in the thirteenth month, they would be re-ranked, although they would not have nearly as long to play another game before losing their ranking again.

Proper rankings/ratings will be released on Jan 1, 2014. If I have spare time and there's enough interest i can also calculate national rankings, based off every ACWC since the inaugural one in 2009. 1v1 rankings are also possible, but as far as I can tell, there have been no 1v1 tournaments since the weekend cup crashed at the end of 2012 (outside of a couple of loosely organised LSS tournaments). So therefore 1v1 rankings aren't viable until there is some data (ie. until people play some 1v1 tournaments).

tl;dr: play more B} League games/3v3 CTF tournaments and get a world ranking on Jan 1, 1v1 and national rankngs potentially to come soon as well
