Well, Steve, it depends on the clan.
Try visiting their websites to see if they have specified that parameter. If they have not, then your question is irrelevant for that particular clan. If the time allocation requirement is discussed, however, you'll be able to determine your particular capability in terms of each clan that does so.
Start with the clan list.

and also, it will be better if u add for each clan informations about the normal time required to be recruited and the percentage of fails at recruiting, plus the level of skill of the clan, normalized in the continuous range [0,1], then order the clans by free application / level of skill / normal time required, so the first in the list will be a skilled clan who recruit without invitation and require a not too much time to enter.

Im doing the excel table, anyone can then complete it with his invented data and post it as pdf, then after 7 days a guy will pick these pdfs and create an unique indicator index, useful fo the dudes who want to fastly enter a skilled clan (this is the common newbie request in this section so that's why i wrote "a skilled clan who recruit without invitation and require a not too much time to enter.")

u are right, free application / invite will be a boolean value, corresponding to 1 for free app and 0 for invite only.

not really my friend, this list is actually unuseful.
when i was a newbie, i didn't want a cold unuseful clanlist comprehending bad clans and clans already died,but i wanted to know what clans fit me well.
this is why i purposed to add more info.
