RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
BTW: It'd be great if those people creating translations would use the gettext stuff to translate in-game messages, we'll also be using a lot more of gettext in the menus - currently only the main-menu is translateable .. but if we get more i18n-workers I bet we'll be seeing more translateable CubeScript that much sooner!

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
Hearty, if you would look in the SVN Trunk or the tagged 1.1.0.0 version you would see, that there is actually an official translation (German). For translations i18n/Gettext is used.

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
I think he's trying to nitpick that it's not "complete" - we know, it's WiP - I think I halfways recruited Andrez to do the italian translation - but he too wants to wait until all the possible strings are translateable.
TBH - this attitude doesn't actually push me towards working on this aspect of the engine, if nobody uses it, why work on it ;-) .. and I don't really get how doing a zillion translations in one go is better than starting off with a couple of hundred and then adding more in batches of further hundreds. *shrug* |

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
Remember that the spaniard spanish is different from mexican spanish, other latin languages are vulgar to mexican, not being racist but it's the same language but with a different pronunciation and sometimes different meaning, the more stable spanish languages are spaniard and mexican

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
Hearty: you're very new to this project - calm down a little ;-) .. there's no localization files other than german ATM - I'll create files for you if you like, you can view the basis in the SVN as AC.pot (latest version)
Monas|SK|: that's what the locale settings are for - I don't know the specifics for spanish, but I'm familiar with Castellan (typo?) and that other variants exist - I can give you an example everybody should appreciate: en_UK, en_US - those are two types of english - they differ e.g. in their spelling of "colo(u)r" or theatre/theater - people are equally biased towards these spelling differences as in other languages - it's human nature! |

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
I know but with castellan its a little bit different cuz in mexican mona mean a type of drug and in latin or castellan mean girl... if you say traste to someone in urugay can mean culo
traste = dish culo = ass that's my point, maybe some words can make others laugh or get offended xD |

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
Yeah....
I shoulda thought about that, know any Spain Spanish speakers? I speak the Mexican Spanish, and monas is right, my grandma once went to southern Mexico and wanted to buy a snack or something and the snack name in her dialect meant nude. So yeah, we gotta work on making it as neutral as we can somehow. |

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
I don't seem to have made myself clear. Because these differences exist the locale does not just contain the "basic" language (in my example above "en") but also the locality-variant (above UK or US). And each translation file we provide will be geared toward an exact locale.
This means if Hearty does a mexican-spanish translation he'd do es_MX, if someone else does spanish as spoken in spain it'd be es_ES (I think, I'm still looking for a comprehensive list!). There's a number of spanish variants: es_CO, es_MX, es_PE, es_AR, ... |

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Translations
Hehe - I know, but is that really all there could be? I've tried several RFCs and accompanying documents and found no lists - which is somewhat odd - anyway, w/o an online reference-list I'll probably just have to copy the list I have to our wiki.
